Digital Radiography to Help Diagnose Pet Problems

Digital radiographs are used to see inside virtually any part of your pet’s body including their mouth and teeth. Images captured digitally can easily be enlarged to enhance the finest details. Digital X-rays also are simple to transmit electronically if we need another set of eyes to evaluate them.

Dental radiography is an essential tool for veterinary dentistry. Because an accurate diagnosis is the foundation for understanding the best way to treat pets, digital dental radiographs are very important. We take X-rays before performing many dental procedures, and these radiographs can help evaluate and document your pet’s dental and oral health.

We also employ digital X-rays for the rest of your pet’s body. These help our veterinarians evaluate:

  • Musculo-skeletal disorders
  • Cardiovascular and cardiopulmonary disorders
  • Gastrointestinal and digestive system problems
  • Urogenital disorders

Veterinary Ultrasound

In addition to digital X-rays, we have ultrasound available at our clinic. Diagnostic ultrasound is a remarkable advance to veterinarians. Because we can use ultrasound to look inside your pet’s abdomen, we can often quickly diagnose many health conditions without an invasive procedure. Ultrasound is used to examine many organs such as:

  • Liver
  • Gall bladder
  • Spleen
  • Heart
  • Kidneys
  • Bladder
  • Intestines
  • Prostate
  • Uterus
  • Ovaries
  • Adrenal glands
  • Stomach

Ultrasound examinations help us to determine the cause of several health issues for pets, such as vomiting, diarrhea, weight loss, unusual kidney or liver results on a blood test, and abnormal urination. Dr. Linda Homco, a board-certified veterinary radiologist, performs ultrasounds at Mendon Village Animal Hospital on Thursdays.
